Embarking on the Korban Journey: A Testimony of Faith, Fiction, and God's Unseen Provision

A Journey Born from Trials

The creation of Korban Books emerged during one of the hardest periods of my life. While experiencing homelessness, I found true wealth not in possessions but in my deep connection to the Word of God. This connection provided comfort and strength during times when everything seemed overwhelming. Despite facing extreme challenges, including being a victim of gang-stalking, I realized I was never truly alone.

I encountered a series of setbacks that left me jobless and relying on the kindness of others. During these dark moments, God's provision shone through in remarkable ways. For instance, strangers often witnessed me praying with tears. Many responded by blessing me with donations that ranged from $100 to as high as $200, reflecting the amazing ways God provides for those in need as it was reported that more than 70% of Americans have helped a stranger in a similar way. Their generosity illustrated the profound support within our communities.

Writing as a Lifeline

My long-lived passion for writing became the lifesaver that helped me navigate these turbulent waters. My first book, There is a Barn in the American Dream (Or How a Jíbaro Built a Bridge), was primarily written while living in my car. Initially intended for a contest at Vox, self-publishing became a way for me to share a story yearning to be told.

The world of self-publishing opened new doors for my dreams to take flight. This journey was not without its obstacles; many were skeptical, questioning my truth and attributing my struggles to misunderstandings and a false mental illness diagnostic. However, I felt a powerful nudge from God to step forward and embrace my calling as a published author. Believing in myself became essential when facing doubts, positioning my faith as my guiding light.

A Tool for the Kingdom

Korban Books is more than a publishing enterprise; it serves as a tool for the Kingdom's transformative journey. We want to reach readers around the globe with a distinct Latino flair and a vibrant English style. Our goal is to create clean, uplifting fiction that resonates with a diverse audience, in a range of languages that we hope will include Portuguese, French and Hebrew.

Our mission sparked in early 2019, during deep discussions with God, where I explored the Bible with fervor. It was in these moments of exploration that I realized my true purpose: to write stories solely for His glory. The inspiration flowed freely, and under God's guidance, the Korban journey truly began.

Finding Strength in Community

The journey has had its ups and downs, but the support from new friends and strangers has been invaluable. It’s incredible how communities can unite during tough times, showcasing collective strength that blossoms from shared faith and hope.

I have seen firsthand how storytelling can uplift spirits and heal wounds. Each book published at Korban Books promises to serve as a testament to gratitude, representing artistic expression and the need for clean, wholesome fiction. In fact, studies show that reading fiction can increase empathy by 27%, which highlights the impact of narrative in connecting us all, and that Bible study projects directed towards trauma-healing are successful in helping to reduce the effects of negative experiences, such as anxiety, depression and violent behavior, among other behavioral conditions.
