The other day at Aquatica, I noticed a pregnant woman confidently walking around in a thong bikini. I just stared. I couldn't do anything else. I know, I know--in this day and age, it is very impolite to tell anyone what to do with their bodies. It's become such a loud social rule, to let people be "who they are," that I've gone deaf from hearing it. It's not that I haven't seen a woman in a bikini or in a thong before. It's that I've never seen a pregnant woman wearing both. And if I had to write a blog post about it, it is obviously an alarming subject.
Do you think I'm being unreasonable? Let me tellyou why I think I'm not.
Pregnancy is not just about physical changes; it is also a spiritual journey. In many cultures and religions, women are honored as life-givers. For instance, the Bible describes women as vessels of life. A significant verse is 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, which emphasizes, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit?” This verse reminds us of the sacredness of a woman's body and highlights our responsibility during such a transformative time.
Given this perspective, pregnant women might consider modesty in their clothing choices. Modesty does not mean giving up style; instead, it offers an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of one’s body while conveying respect for themselves and their unborn child.

Promoting modest clothing during pregnancy can significantly impact future generations. Young girls who observe their mothers embracing their bodies with dignity are more likely to hold similar values as they grow. Such behavior can cultivate a culture that celebrates the sanctity of life and the beauty of womanhood, especially in a world where messages around modesty often get lost.
It’s important to understand that pregnancy causes unique and beautiful changes in a woman’s body. While the body expands to make room for new life, empowerment can take many forms. Choosing modest clothing can enhance the beauty of motherhood without overshadowing the experience.
Selecting more modest swimwear or clothing during pregnancy doesn't mean sacrificing comfort or style. Options like swim dresses or chic cover-ups can flatter your figure and accommodate your growing belly. Many modern brands offer stylish choices that enable you to feel comfortable and confident at the beach or pool.
Furthermore, being intentional about clothing choices can influence societal perceptions of pregnancy. When nudity becomes too normalized, it can suggest that pregnancy is only about the physical form. It's crucial to appreciate pregnancy as a life-altering experience filled with emotional and spiritual depth.
Women need to realize the responsibility they bear, not just for themselves but also as role models for younger generations. By fostering a community that encourages women to not just embrace their bodies but protect them, we can send a message that affirms a higher strength and beauty.
Every woman chooses her clothing, especially during pregnancy. However, considering the broader implications of those choices can influence the messages received by the next generation.
As a reminder, while self-expression through clothes can feel liberating, it’s essential to reflect on what those choices communicate during such a special time. Wearing modest clothing honors the unique experience of pregnancy and helps shape a future where the beauty of womanhood is cherished in all its forms.
So, this is our best message to all pregnant mommies-to-be out there: the next time you visit the beach or pool, keep in mind that the focus should be on the miracle of pregnancy. Let your growing belly shine while you wear clothing that embodies modesty, elegance, and respect—for yourself and for the precious life you are nurturing.
Shalom!
